Google wants to steer Americans to the ballot boxes this November with enhanced search features it’s rolling out on July 18.
“Register to vote” and similar queries will be met with details on how to register to vote, general requirements for each state, as well as registration deadlines starting Monday (July 18). The company will filter information based on location—either using geolocation to automatically display results or allowing users the option to toggle between different states with a drop-down menu.
Every year, search terms related to voter registration tend to pick up around October in the US, so Google is gearing up well in advance.
It launched a version of these election-related search results in 2014. Google says the breadth and depth of information is much more comprehensive this time around.
When you search for the Republican National Conventions, which begins next week, Google will list a summary of events as well as the nominees and the lineup of speakers.
