We spoke to Tyler Edgren and he shared his definition of success and told us the biggest misconception about auto repair today.

Patch partner Tyler Edgren of Precision Auto Repair tells us how to find a reputable repair service and recommends three easy thing readers can do to improve the longevity of their cars.

Patch: How did you get involved with the automotive industry?

Tyler Edgren: The automotive industry has been a family business for generations. My grandfather had a Plymouth dealership, Edgren Motors, in Pleasanton and Fremont. My uncle left the dealership to start his own shop in 1979 working on Hondas.

Tyler Edgren: Precision Auto Repair, Inc. can perform all services to keep you car running at its best. We offer everything from oil services, smog checks, tires, alignments, all preventative maintenance to keep your warranty valid, engine rebuilds, transmission to wiper inserts and everything in between.

Servicing your vehicles involved much more than changing parts or replacing fluids. Every time you bring your vehicle to Precision Auto Repair, a certified technician will run a complete inspection and note any preventative maintenance or repair that will save you time and money.

Patch: What is your definition of success?

Tyler Edgren: Success is the accomplishment of a purpose. I have attained success by providing a valuable service to my community and developing a partnership with the people in that community to keep their vehicles safe and on the road. Vehicles come into the shop and we have to evaluate what is an immediate concern and what issues can be addressed at a later date. Then we (the customer and Precision Auto Repair) can work together to develop a plan of action to address the concerns.

Patch: Can you tell us a little bit about your staff and their background?

Tyler Edgren: We have a Service Manager, Kevin Green, who has been with Precision Auto Repair since 1998. Kevin has been in the auto industry since after high school and is the owner of our shop dog, Peanut.

Service Writer Ben Freitas has been with us since 1997. Our newest Service Writer, Ken Medeiros, joined the team last year. We have a great staff of certified technicians. Our technicians are Jason Clouser, John Figas, Ron Garcia, Vasiliy Shust and John Ueda. My father, John Edgren, works as our shuttle driver.

Patch: What is the biggest misconception about auto repair?

Tyler Edgren: Currently the biggest misconception is that in order to maintain the vehicle’s manufacturer warranty that maintenance must be performed at the dealer. This is not true.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, states that it is illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage simply because you had routine maintenance or repairs performed by someone else. Customers just need to keep the records of the services that were performed.

Patch: How should readers find a reputable repair service?

Tyler Edgren: Customers need to make sure they feel comfortable with the shop they choose. The Service Advisors should be able to answer your questions and explain to you what is going on with your vehicle.

We take photos of leaks, tears in belts, broken components, etc and show them to the customer and tell them why these items need to be replaced. A shop should stand behind their repairs, we offer a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty on all of our services and repairs.

Patch: What are three easy thing readers can do to improve the longevity of their cars?

Tyler Edgren: Preventative maintenance is so important. Replacing components based on age and/or mileage before they have a chance to fail. Getting the oil changed regularly and maintaining proper tire pressures are going to help the car to run at it’s best.

Patch: What makes Precision Auto Repair standout from the competition?

Tyler Edgren: We have been a family owned and operated business in the Pleasanton valley since 1979. We stand behind our repairs and most importantly are honest. We give each vehicle a full inspection and them prioritize the repairs for the customer. That way they know what is an immediate safety issue, what can wait until next time and what repairs will likely be needed in the future. In this way, we partner with our customers to keep their vehicles safely on the road for as long as they would like to keep them.

Patch: How can readers contact you or learn more about Precision Auto Repair?

Tyler Edgren: Customers can always go to our website, www.PrecisionAutoRepair.com and find out more about us or they can call us at 925-462-7440 for answers to specific questions.
