Transgender Coverage Comes to Wisconsin Medicaid With Court Loss (1)

Wisconsin must offer Medicaid coverage for surgical and hormone treatments for transgender beneficiaries after the state chose not to appeal a recent court loss.

The state had until Dec. 9 to appeal a district court decision that struck down rules that excluded Medicaid coverage of the treatments for beneficiaries with gender dysphoria. But the attorney general’s office said it chose instead to end the lawsuit.

Wisconsin had already reached a partial settlement to pay the plaintiffs $837,500 in damages and nearly $1.4 million in attorneys’ fees. That deal was contingent upon any outstanding appeals being resolved.
