Kim Kardashian laid everything bare in her emotional interview with David Letterman, discussing everything from Caitlyn Jenner to the Paris robbery, the sex tape and even who earns more – her or Kanye West

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star sat down with the esteemed talk show host for season two of his Netflix show David Letterman: My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.

During the hour-long chat, Kim – who turns 40 today – opened up about her rise to fame and all the triumphs, trials and tribulations she lived right in the public eye over the past 14 years.

At times she laughed, cried and told witty jokes and as always, she delivered exactly what the people want, addressing all her controversies head-on.

Filmed during the pandemic, Kim was supported by her famous family with mum Kris Jenner, sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian and husband Kanye West sitting in the audience.

It’s certainly an interview worth watching but here’s a rundown of Kim’s most shocking reveals.

Kim on the OJ Simpson murder trial

Before the family’s reality show, Kim’s late father Robert Kardashian was the one grabbing headlines after joining his friend OJ Simpson’s legal team during the sports star’s trial for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

Kim was a teen at the time and described how ‘Uncle OJ’s trial ‘tore the family apart’ with her dad Robert choosing The Juice’s side and mum Kris siding with her best friend Nicole.

She recalled: ‘The week before that happened we were all on a trip, the Simpsons and us, and then this happening was kind of unimaginable but then having your dad take one side and your mum take the complete opposite side…

‘I remember answering the phone, it was dinner time, and I answered the phone and it was a call from jail. It was OJ and I handed my mum the phone because he wanted to speak to her and I just remember them getting into it.

Kim continued: ‘My mum was extremely vocal on her feelings. She believed that her friend was murdered by him and that was really traumatising for her.

‘Then we’d go to my dad’s house and it was a whole other situation there. It would be like Johnny Cochran, Dave Shapiro, my dad and the whole team so we didn’t really know what to believe or who’s side to take as kids because we didn’t want to hurt our parents’ feelings.’

When asked why she’s never explicitly stated whether she believes OJ was responsible for the murders of Nicole and Ron, Kim explained: ‘I’ve never expressed how I felt about that because I just respect his children and so, if I were to say something that would hurt someone’s feelings publicly… then I’m aware.’

Kim on Caitlyn Jenner

The KKW Beauty founder recalled the moment she discovered Caitlyn, who was married to her mother Kris for over 20 years, was secretly crossdressing before she transitioned.

‘[Caitlyn] was the best stepdad, [she] was amazing,’ Kim explained. ‘When I was 26 years old, my mum was out of town. I was living with them and I walked in the garage and Bruce was dressed fully as a woman with a wig, make-up, heels, a dress and clothes.

‘I walked right past her, into my room, packed a bag so first and called Kourtney… she was like, “Oh my God, you caught Bruce cheating”. I said, “I wish”.’

With Kourtney, she tried to research ‘what does this mean’ in regards to her stepfather wearing women’s clothes in private.

‘The only thing we found online was this Oprah episode of a transgender woman and we still couldn’t really understand what it meant,’ Kim revealed.

She continued: ‘Bruce called and said, “Whenever you’re ready, I’ll love to sit down and talk to you but in the meantime, don’t tell a soul, your mum has no idea and she will kill me”.

‘It was just a little confusing because we all wanted to be there in support of but also wanting to support our mum who this is news to, married to someone for 22 years, her heart was broken.

‘It was just a lot when you kind of find out with the whole world.’

Kim on Donald Trump

Kim discussed her studying for a law degree and working with the Trump administration on prison reform.

She explained: ‘Hopefully for the next, multiple administrations I will be working with the White House helping them with clemencies.’

Letterman pressed Kim on why she was supporting and working with the Trump administration despite the criticisms of his presidency.

‘I understand that and there are frustrations,’ she admitted.

‘Trust me, everyone called me and said “don’t you dare step foot in that White House or your reputation is done”. I said, I have to step foot in there or these people don’t have a chance. So it’s a life or my reputation.’

But she added: ‘I’m truly focused and I’m extremely grateful to this administration and the work that they’ve done for prison reform. I’ll give props where props are due and I’ll stay focused on what I can do.’

Kim on the Paris robbery

In October 2016, Kim flew over to France for Paris Fashion Week with her sister Kourtney and some friends.

One night after Kanye flew home, she heard ‘stomping up the stairs’ and assumed Kourtney and her friend Stephanie Shepherd were drunk when they didn’t answer her calls.

‘Immediate panic, I knew someone was there,’ Kim explained.

While she hurriedly called her security guard, two men dressed as policemen entered the room with a concierge handcuffed and pointing a gun at him.

‘They kept on saying the ring,’ Kim revealed in reference to her engagement ring from Kanye. They tied her up with handcuffs, zip-ties and duct tape.

Fighting back tears, Kim said: ‘I was wearing a robe and I wasn’t wearing anything under it. I kept thinking this is the time I’m gonna get raped, prepare yourself…

‘They said they tried it the last trip but Kanye was there so they were scared, so they saw on social media that I had a new ring.’

On how much Kanye earns

Letterman seized the opportunity to quiz Kim on her net worth after all the reports of her and Kanye’s billionaire status floating around the past year.

When asked who earns more, Kim stated: ‘Him probably.’

Avoiding giving exact figures, the reality star joked: ‘We’re exactly even,’ before adding more seriously: ‘We both are really blessed and do extremely well and I’m very grateful.’
