Kentucky Wildcats Morning Quickies: Dwight Anderson Edition

Dwight Anderson played only one full season at UK, but he was among the most talented players Joe B. Hall ever recruited. His untimely death at only 59 is an occasion to remember his time at Kentucky.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen of the Big Blue Nation, and welcome to the Tuesday Morning Quickies.

The big news, for me at least, is that Saturday we received word that former Wildcat Dwight “The Blur” Anderson has died too young at 59. Anderson was really only a member of Kentucky’s team for one season, as a freshman in 1978-79. Some of his more memorable teammates were Kyle Macy, Fred Cowan, Lavon Williams, Truman Claytor and Jay Shidler. It was a small team and, outside of Anderson and Claytor, a bit slow afoot.

But I remember Anderson’s quickness and athleticism well, and I always thought that he was a future star at UK. Alas, it was not to be, as he transferred during the Christmas break of the following year. He went on to star at the University of Southern California, where he led the Bears to an NCAA berth in 1982, averaging 20 points and was an All-American honorable mention.

Rest in peace, Dwight Anderson. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.
