I booked a stay with Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown because its price, location, new vibe, and reviews via Yelp and Expedia fit what I was looking for. Out of three other hotels I noted, Canopy was the cheapest, yet highly rated. One thing I loved about its location was that it sat within range of all things of my interest in New Orleans. As of late, I have been highly intrigued by hotels with colorful exteriors which not only add a new vibe but contribute to my anticipation of visiting. Since this hotel is on the uprise there is a lack in reviews, so with that I booked in expectation of nothing less than a great experience. The Yelp reviews read were quality enough to persuade me into booking. And during the time booked, Canopy had a rating of 4.1 out of 5 via Expedia.

My experience with the receptionist behind the desk was nothing less than professional. Since my room was already paid for, the only thing check-in consisted of was a verification of my information, a short briefing of what the hotel offers, and giving me my room key. The receptionist was even so kind as to give me a New Orleans sweet potato praline cookie. For your information check-in starts at 4:00PM, and check-out ends at 11:00AM.

My initial impression of the room was, "Aww! This is beautiful!" The room was very decorative and colorful with colors that match the city's jazz music persona. I must say that I loved the welcome sign with my name featured on the television. It is the little things like that why hotels get good reviews from me. And this is the first hotel I have stayed at with both a trash and recycling receptacle inside of the room.

The room met my cleanliness standards! Comfort wise, there were no issues whatsoever sleeping in the king-sized bed during my stay. Not once did I wake up as my head was engulfed in-between the comfortable pillows. The shower was okay! I say okay because I was not too fond of the shower head design, but I did feel clean after showering. I must say that I loved that they had lavender hygiene products like lotion, shampoo, bath soap, and conditioner. And the Wi-Fi internet was easy to connect to with no connectivity issues during my stay.

There is a restaurant known as Ginger ROUX where you can purchase drinks at the bar/lounge. It was one of the amenities I had no interest in during my stay, but it did add a nice spiffy touch to the hotel. As far as my times in-and-out of the hotel, I do not believe I saw any of the guests utilizing its bar/lounge other than for a meeting. I likely would have checked it out, if I felt it were vegan friendly or let alone if the menu was more publicized in the rooms. It always pains me to go out and get my food when hotels have accessible restaurants attached.

There are plentiful sights, activities, restaurants, and shopping centers within a mile radius of Canopy. Some that I experienced and noted were Fulton Street, French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, The Caesars Superdome, The World-Famous Museum of Death, Canal Place, Harrah's, and Louis Armstrong Park.

I would book with Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown again because not only did the hotel meet my comfort needs, but its location is within a fitting distance from attractions that have my interest in New Orleans.

      ~Blessings~

If this is your first visit to NOLA, jog on and find somewhere in the tourist or garden district (probs not on Bourbon St if you value your sleep). It was a little too far out of the way for us to really feel like we were on holiday.

I'll start by saying that it's a neat building. It's the old Oil and Gas office building and you can still see the old fixtures and fittings around the place. I will also say that as of the time of writing (March 2024) they are renovating the old office building next door into another hotel. They don't seem too far along, so be prepared for construction noise for a while to come.

The reception staff were nice, but I ended up having to ask for my included upgrade when I was not offered one. We ended up in a corner room which was lovely and light due to all the windows.

Corey at the bar was the bomb! So friendly and helpful!

There is an extremely limited breakfast menu. I was recovering from oral surgery so my ability to eat normally was limited. I picked the softer pieces out of one of the larger breakfast plates and gave my husband the rest.

      The room:

Nice to have -- Nice bed. Soft sheets. The biggest and softest towels in the universe. All the toiletries you need. Filtered water & ice at the hydration station on each floor.

Would have been nice to have -- A regular coffee maker. I don't do (N)espresso. Our travel kettle saved us.
A real fridge (the gal who checked us in told us that it was a 'chiller' not a 'fridge'). Now, I ask myself... "what the heck is the difference"? Doesn't a chiller keep something chilled - just like a fridge? Anyhoo, we only needed it for milk for our tea and coffee (that we brought with us).
CARPET!!! Come on now folks. Concrete floors?? Yes, they may have been original to the building, but still... There was a tiny (maybe 6") strip of carpet around and between the beds, but the rest... Brrrrr... bring ye slippers.

All in all the hotel is good if you need to be in that part of town.

Need a hotel near the smoothie king center or Superdome? This is your place.

From the time we pulled up to valet to check out we had a great experience. This was a staycation and they made me feel like I was on a real vacation in Nola.

Ms Lala at the front desk is an amazing welcome to the place and informative. The bartender whoms name I missed hit all the marks at the bar downstairs.

Room was clean and even though it was packed you didn't feel that way.

In New Orleans, I have stayed at several hotels and it's a challenge to find one that can deal with the climate while providing some level of comfort. I stayed in this hotel for two nights, and while I found the room to be comfortable, we had a couple of issues. First of all there was an alarm going off in the electrical closet on my floor. No one attended to it and I could smell what could best be described as something electrical burning. I went down to the front desk to report it. They sent somebody up and seemed unconcerned about it but when I returned to the floor, the smell was greatly diminished, and the alarm was off. It was concerning that nobody attended to this alarm that had been going on for a while until I reported it. Second, our room was quite warm when we got in, though it was December and in the 60s when we arrived. The room was spacious enough, and it came with a really great Nespresso coffee machine, and I really appreciated that. The toilet and shower area was very cramped, and the door that opened from the shower, opened toward the toilet in a way that made it very hard to get in and out. The toilet itself had a pump that appeared to be going out and made this terrible l, like killing of a lamb sound every time we flushed the toilet. Clearly, this is not a new problem and I was disappointed somebody had not fixed that before we arrived. Oh, also, there was what I could just figure out was supposed to be a refrigerator below the coffee maker, but it was not cold, and there was no way to determine how to make it cold and the dryer was broken so anytime I pulled it out, the whole thing would fall out.

The other major issue was the lobby. The front desk clerks were lacking in attentiveness (on their phones with personal calls) and hospitality and the temperature in the lobby was very warm. It stayed at 75 or 76° each day we were there. The day we checked out it was in the mid 70s outside and so it was very warm and humid feeling in the lobby. They said they had no intention of changing the temperature or turning on the A/C, even though the past two days had been warm, because they were waiting on a cold front to come through sometime later that evening. They also explained to me that with their front doors being constantly opened because of guests arriving & leaving, there was no point in trying to keep the lobby at a comfortable temperature. I found their reaction disappointing. Also I would be concerned about booking this hotel in the summer because I wonder what it would be like when it's over 100° outside. Finally, it took about 25 minutes for us to get our car from the valet. There was only one couple ahead of us so I found it disappointing it took that long. Overall the beds were very comfortable and we slept well (as long as we had a sound machine going) and the location was great.

      Overall good stay, let's go!

So how'd we pick this place to stay? I (still had as of October) my -$200.00 AMEX Platinum "Fine Hotels & Resorts" credit to use- so figured use it or lose it!

      Location:
      - Keep in mind that this is in the "Central Business District" when booking, which (as a visitor) may not be the ideal location for you (ok for us, as we were spending most of our time at Tulane University)

      Hotel impressions:
      - Has a cool vibe
      - Front desk team was very friendly and welcoming
      - Room was decent, average size (has an "industrial" feel to it which is ok for us

      Bar/Restaurant:
      - Stopped by the bar one night for drinks, and had good service and appreciated the Saints game being on that Thursday night to watch
      - Had breakfast only at the restaurant, and found the food to be very good

Hope this helps you make your decision of where to stay in NOLA.

So far So good! Checking in was smooth sailing! I'm a member of both "Hilton and the Marriott but I must say, I am IMPRESSED!

I'm an owner of a Nespresso Machine and I love the pods! I read the reviews and reviewed the items which were included in the room and I saw Nespresso machine..well, there are SO many companies that claim they have a Nespresso, only to find out it's another brand...well it was and boy was happy!!

I Love the design of the room...very quaint and chill.

The bar...well, it's one of my favorite places to be! It seats about 7 guests directly at the bar, then there is seating directly behind the bar seating but the bar still provides service to that area as well. Then there is a dining area which is great!

Of course I made my way to the bar and I started with a glass of Butternut Chardonnay and ended with a Earl Grey Gimlet! Nom Nom!

If you're in need of a place to stay, I would highly suggest The Canopy @Hilton in New Orleans!

Not only will I be staying here, but my son and his fiancé and his Mother in Love! Can you say...WE LOVE IT?! Well...we do!

Shout out to the check in process! I received my key immediately and shout out to the bar tender Brittany AKA Nola Darling for providing great customer service with a chill personality!

      Location is perfect!
It's away from the bustling noise from
The main tourist streets so you don't hear it, but walking distance when you want a livelier atmosphere.
10-minute walk to the French Quarter, Bourbon Street

Staff is super friendly and there's a nice little bar. You can order drinks or a bite to eat.

      Room was spacious and comfortable.

Definitely book again when we go back

Nice stay but valet was SO SLOW.

Quite a nice stay! I'm a diamond member and was upgraded to a suite. Nespresso machine, ultra friendly staff, and the daily credit are great touches. Didn't stop in for happy hour.

Had a great night sleep too!

HOWEVER the valet was incredibly slow. The ticket says expect 15 mins, which is fine, but 1) you cannot call downstairs 15 mins in advance to have them pull the car around for you, and 2) it took closer to 25 minutes to have the car pulled around, once I was downstairs and ready to go. If there had been anyone ahead of me, I would have been very late for my meeting.

Also, the daily credit is an issue across many Hilton hotels. This hotel is not an exception. The lady at check in said I get $18 "today and tomorrow" and the lady when I checked out said I only get 1 credit.

I stand firmly that if the credit was one per night, it would say it's a nightly credit. However they all say daily credit, which means 2 days.

Canopy by Hilton New Orleans. This is a fairly new hotel and the feel is very European. Husband and I booked our stay here through American Express travel.
We arrived early and were told they did not have our reservation, which was not an ideal way to start an Anniversary trip. So after 30 minutes of waiting and talking to an American Express representative on the phone our reservation was found.
We later reached out to Kendal Toles, The General Manager whom made the rest of our stay top notch.
We stayed in a King corner room which was nice and roomy. The room had a coffee station and a walk in shower.
Because it was a corner room we had lots of windows which was nice.
The hotel has a nice bar area where they serve breakfast in the morning. Then they have a separate restaurant that serves lunch and dinner.
I highly recommend you visit Barry @ the Herbalist/bar for great drinks.

We stayed here because I had a credit card bonus that was about to expire and it came with $100 towards dining/experience. The location is pretty decent- near the streetcar stops, quiet and off the beaten path. The rooms are clean and well maintained, but the sheets are scratchy and none of us slept well or thought the beds were comfortable. The restaurant was not open when we went (6pm on a Saturday and it was supposed to be open until 11pm), and we were told we could order to go from the bar, which we declined. There is an option to order a $5 breakfast of yogurt, fruit (apple or orange), juice, and a granola bar that is delivered to the room in the morning. You order by affixing a bag to your door, which we thought was a nice option since we tend to oversleep. You can tick a box with a 1 or a 2 to indicate how many breakfast bags you'd like to order. I wrote 3 on the bag so that we could have three breakfasts (the room sleeps four and we had three people), so I was surprised in the morning when only two breakfasts were there. I called the front desk and they told me that you are only allowed to order two per room. This seems like a bizarre policy since you can sleep four in a room (had two queen beds). In the morning while we were checking out, a woman was at the front desk saying that her car had been broken into and she had been assaulted while smoking outside. While
The area felt reasonably safe and quiet to us, it was a reminder that you have to be careful regardless of where you stay. We love NOLA and will definitely be back, but we won't stay here again.

I had a very nice four-night stay at Canopy for vacation. The location is fantastic - just a block from a streetcar stop and within easy walking distance of the French Quarter. While the neighborhood to the west looks a bit sketchy, I always felt safe walking in the area.

The hotel has a unique and interesting design and is focused on going green. Instead of disposable soaps and shampoos, they have refillable bottles in the bathroom. There are refillable glass water bottles in the rooms with filtered water stations on the odd floors (odd floors only, so if you have a choice, get a room on an odd-numbered floor). The coffeemaker is an original Nespresso, and there is a "refrigerated" drawer, which will cool things slightly but not get anything actually cold. It took me a bit to realize that a switch inside the door actually turns off the outlets next to the bed (odd), so if the outlets don't work, check the switches.

My dealings with the staff were quite delightful. Keith at the front desk was one of the best hotel staff members I've ever met, and I value the tips he gave me and the general discussions we had. Barry, the bartender, was also a delight.

There are two in-house dining options with different names for the same kitchen. Ginger Roux for lunch and dinner, and the Herbalist for breakfast and the bar. The food is surprisingly good, and the prices were reasonable for the quality. The crawfish boil fried rice was amazing (Louisiana crawfish tails, andouille, local mushrooms, and charred corn) for dinner, as was the Louisiana breakfast (eggs, cheddar grits, praline bacon, biscuit). I wanted to try a lot more, but I also wanted to eat throughout New Orleans while in town. Unfortunately, my last morning, a convention was in town, so they switched to an "all-inclusive" breakfast buffet for $29, which simply looked like Hampton's free breakfast.

Overall, quite a satisfying place to stay, and I will return.
