Everyone loves a good homage car. Its almost impossible not to. Car manufacturers might be looking to the future at the moment, but there is nothing wrong with looking to the past either. And Audi has been amazing at that recently. Last November they revealed the RS6 GTO, an IMSA GTO tribute car that looks like something out of Forza Horizon. Audtiography on YouTube has been lucky enough to have an exclusive photoshoot with the car in Germany to show off this amazing machine while also uploading some of these images to their Instagram page.

A Celebration Of The Quattro IMSA GTO

The car is a 40 year Quattro celebration but it also pays tribute to the legendary 90 Quattro IMSA GTO racer, and we have been lusting over it ever since it was revealed. And it is certainly not lacking at all when it comes to power.

It has a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine as well as a small hybrid element, which brings its total power output to around 705 hp with 664 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 only takes 3.1 seconds, while its top speed is around 193 mph. It took 12 apprentices 25 weeks to build the car, and though it uses the A6 as a base, it is actually 14 cm wider than the standard model.

Side Exhausts And Livery Add To The Cars Wild Exterior

When you see the side exhausts on the RS6 GTO, you will not fail to be reminded of the Quattro IMSA GTO, and the livery is also a homage to that car. In fact, when you compare the two side by side, and we will feature an image of the original, you could argue that the RS6 GTO actually looks a lot more dramatic! But if you are going to pay tribute to a legendary car, you have got to go big and that’s exactly what the apprentices did.

The 90 Quattro IMSA Was A Fearsome Machine

via Audi

The original 90 Quattro IMSA was a fearsome car. Not just to look at, but to drive. A 20-valve 2.2 liter five-pot engine had a giant KKK turbo, and it produced around 720 hp. In 1989, that was probably knocking on the door of the naturally aspirated F1 cars of the time. In its IMSA campaign, it won 7 of the 13 races. The RS6 GTO is a fitting tribute then to one of Audi's greatest racing machines.
