Celebrities, colleagues mourn late film director Peque Gallaga


Celebrities and film industry colleagues said their goodbyes to award-winning film director Peque Gallaga, who passed away on Thursday.

Aiai Delas Alas, a frequent collaborator of the director, took to Instagram to pay tribute to the cinema great.

"Halos lahat ng 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' ay kasama ako dahil gusto mo ako kasama Direk," she said. "Maraming salamat sa iyong napaka fanda at napaka husay na kontribusyon sa sining ng pelikulang Pilipino."

Judy Ann Santos, who worked with Gallaga in the film "T'yanak," also expressed her gratitude for the late director.

"Your wisdom in many things, your honesty, professionalism, genuine love and kindness to everyone around you, your hugs and laughter I will miss the most," she said.

Solenn Heussaff, who worked with Peque in "Seduction," also thanked the director for being the "best teacher" she could ask for.

"Will miss your joie de vivre, your sarcasm and views on certain subjects/people , the way you brought a cast together and made set feel like an actual home," she said.

 

 

Several film directors also opened up on how Peque influenced their love for film.

Pepe Diokno said that he met Gallaga when he was just on his first job as a newspaper writer.

"He was larger than life and unapologetic, and I wanted to be like him one day. Years later, as I was struggling w/ my first film, he took my call and gave me advice. He was so generous," he said.

Kip Oebanda also had a few words for the film legend.

"We lost one of the greatest of all time. No one influenced my love for local cinema more than Peque Gallaga. RIP, sir. Your legacy as an artist and as a person will live on," he said.

Peque is best known for his 1982 film classic "Oro Plata Mata." He died in a hospital in Bacolod City due to complications arising from past health conditions. He was 76. —Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
