NEW YORK — The number of deaths in New York City due to the novel coronavirus has passed the number of homicides in the city in all of 2019.

Last year, 319 people were murdered in America. As of Thursday night, 365 people have died from COVID-19 in the city.

To give you how quickly that many deaths have amassed in the city, the first coronavirus death in New York City was announced just 13 days ago on March 14.

A total of 519 people have died of coronavirus in New York state as of Friday. Over 1,400 people have died nationwide.
