Couple fined $3300 after posting old holiday pictures on Facebook
A couple has been fined for breaching coronavirus restriction laws despite never having left their home.
Jazz Mot and her husband, Gary, told 7News on Monday Victoria Police had recently slapped them with a $1,652 fine each for non-essential travel after Ms Mot posted old holiday snaps Facebook.
Ms Mot, from Traralgon, in the state’s south-east, said police accused the couple of “going for a drive to Lakes Entrance”, but the images were actually taken during a holiday in June 2019.
After reviewing the infringement notices, Victoria Police told Yahoo News Australia the fines had been withdrawn.
“On occasion, errors will be made, however, that is why a review process exists to ensure instances such as these are identified and rectified,” a spokesperson said.
Officers said while they don’t monitor social media accounts for breaches of the state’s stage three restrictions, police will follow up and investigate circumstances surrounding possible violations reported by the public.
Over the Easter long weekend, Victoria Police issued 158 fines for such breaches.
