Losing your property is seriously annoying - especially when it's something you use often, or rely on heavily. The good thing about some technology these days is that when you lose it, there's an option to track it from another device - for example, you can see the location of your iPad from your iPhone using the 'Find My' app. This way, if you do ever misplace your property, or it's stolen, you have a record of where it is.
But one woman and her boyfriend were left mortified when her boyfriend went to the cinema and lost his brand new AirPods, which retail at around £179. They decided to track them after being told by the manager that "nothing had been handed in", and they were horrified by what they saw.
She took to Mumsnet to share their horror, writing: "My boyfriend went to the cinema last week for a private premiere and lost his brand new AirPods. He went to lost and found and was told by the manager nothing had been handed in.
"Come today, they have pinged up their location at a house. After some serious internet sleuthing (ancestry/bt phone book etc) we have found the Facebook profile of the man who lives at the address. And guess what? He has listed on Facebook that he is the manager of the exact cinema my boyfriend lost his AirPods at.
"Essentially the manager has taken my boyfriend's AirPods out of lost and found and taken them home with him to keep. My boyfriend is not sure what to do, shall we speak to head office about this? Shall we just contact him directly? My boyfriend doesn't really want to get him fired but to be honest, I worry how many people this manager has done this to and it's clearly just an abuse of power. We have all the proof and screenshots etc of their location at his address."
In the comments, people were not taking any prisoners, with one person encouraging them to give him one more chance to give them back before getting the police involved. They wrote: "I would screenshot and go to the police after giving him one last chance to give them back. You're worried about his job? He is a thief. This isn't an item kicking about a lost and found for a year or two and thrown up on vinted because it's been unclaimed - it's a deliberate theft of an item the manager knows is not his property. Report him and tell the police too. This is called consequences."
Someone else fumed: "Police (probably only get a reference number) head office and social media. I'd throw it all the wall. Cheeky b*****d." Another suggested: "Do it like this: 'Ah, I can see from my pods pinging at your home address you've found my AirPods, thanks for keeping them safe for me. I will come to the cinema to get them today'. That gives him a way out so you actually get them back. The police are unlikely to visit to get them, unfortunately."
