With this week’s release of Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise aims to prove, once again, that he remains an invaluable movie star, still nimble and appealing and versatile even well into his 50s and past multiple controversies. He can still hang off the side of a plane and lead a perfect summertime blockbuster, so reviving the movie musical should be no problem at all, right?

Yes, he tried it once before with a small role in the instantly forgotten Rock of Ages, but we’re going to consider that a warm-up for Bob the Musical, a long-gestating project that The Wrap says Cruise is now “circling.” Set up at Disney, the movie is about a man who is horrified to find that his life has become a musical after he suffers a head injury; suddenly, he can hear “the songs of everyone’s heart.” It sounds sort of like a mid-aughts Jim Carrey comedy, but also a solid premise for a modern-day musical, meta and silly but thoroughly entertaining with enough good musical numbers to back it up.

Disney is reportedly also eyeing The Artist’s Michel Hazanavicius to direct, a pairing with Cruise that could lend Bob the Musical a bit more prestige than you might expect from something so high-concept. Then again, the last time Tom Cruise danced in a comedy, it landed one of his co-stars an Oscar nomination. So never doubt his ability to mix prestige with silliness—or his ability to do anything, really. He’ll top your expectations—and while hanging off the Burj Khalifa, just for good measure.
