Want to tour like a rock star? Luxury RV rentals are the way to do it

By James Wong   |

Performing each night and retiring to a bedroom on wheels whilst being driven has been the way of life for musicians over decades. Today it’s a way of life for holiday makers too. Since the pandemic broke, RVshare reported that bookings increased by over 1,600% as travellers opt for safer modes of transport in the same vein as private jet and private yacht chartering.

Contrary to popular belief, RVs aren’t all bunk beds and granny style nooks. RVs have morphed into luxury modes of transportation – full scale apartments on wheels. Here’s what you can expect when renting your first RV, as well as some tips for first timers.

Rock star wheels

This incredible Holiday Rambler Class A model on RVshare is one of the best you can rent at the moment. The vehicle sleeps seven in a luxurious custom set up. The driver has a three way video camera, remote HD mirrors, premium navigation system, satellite radio and Bluetooth media to keep entertained on those long journeys. The whole vehicle has heated marble floors throughout, and three rooftop AC units. Despite its size, RVs like this are not so difficult to drive for first timers, and most get used to the dimensions within minutes.

It’s hard to believe that a mini hotel suite can fit on the back of a moving vehicle

Hotel style interiors

The spacious living area has a remote controlled fire place and retractable 49″ TV with Bose sound bar. There’s a slide-open master bedroom suite with king size bed which power tilts to a sitting position, and bathroom with double vanities, mood lighting, walk-in shower and 32″ smart TV. Mid cabin, beds extend to queen size and bunk, perfect for guests, kids and entertainment. There is also a separate second bathroom.

Home comforts

The kitchen is a chef’s dream with two induction style burners, microwave, convection oven, dishwasher, full-size refrigerator and huge counter space with extending bar cabinet. The dining area seats four and then doubles as office or computer desk and credenza. Need to do laundry? There are full-sized washer and dryers fitted. Be sure to opt for full hook ups at RV sites which connect your vehicle to water, electricity and sewage so there is no need to fuss over low tanks and a rationing system.

Decent restaurants may be hard to come by on the road, so the RV comes with full kitchen and dining spaces

Outdoor extras

When parked outside, this particular vehicle has an 18ft extendable power awning with LED lights and 47″ Smart Sony TV with Bose sound bar which tilts out for ease of watching. Most vehicles provide some sort of seating and recreational extras at the discretion of owners. After a long day on the road you deserve to kick back with drinks, treats, a playlist and breathtaking views.

A variety of delivery options

There’s nothing worse than a long trek to reach your RV rental. You can opt to have your luxury RV delivered when you reach your destination. For example, at the airport. Imagine getting off the plane and beginning your trip right away when you board an RV. No time wasted, and of course minimal human contact whilst in a new destination.

If reaching your vehicle is a challenge, you can have it delivered to you, to an airport or to a campsite

Super easy rental system

Booking an RV is actually very simple. It’s not much different from booking an Airbnb. RVshare lets you do it via their website. You just need to be over 25 and have a valid driver’s licence. Input your requirements and you’re matched with a selection of RVs and their hosts. Using RVshare means a worry free rental guarantee that offers payment and fraud protection, 24-hour customer service and roadside assistance.

There are so many different kinds of RVs to choose from. Do your research before booking

Bonus: The LLM packing list

For first timer RV users, there are some essential items to bring with you on the road. Here are our top six.

YETI V Series stainless steel cooler

You’re going to be enjoying the great outdoors a plenty, and rather than run back to the RV while you’re on the beach or at a picnic site, invest in a cooler. YETI is king of coolers and this stylish number has vacuum insulated panels, strong durable body, and deep seal drain plug.

Nomad power pack

Bring this with you on those long hikes. Nomad’s power pack with tile tracking is the best on the market. It is super fast charging and lightweight. Nomad also have quality cables, Airpod chargers, straps and wireless chargers that outdoor enthusiasts swear by.

ViroShield bug repellent spray

You’ll need an effective bug repellent. ViroShield’s offering actually works – it has citronella, eucalyptus and cedarwood oils, known for their bug repelling properties, and is DEET free. We spray it, not only on ourselves, but at the entrances to the RV to warn off pests.

One of our packing essentials, a YETI cooler to keep those drinks super chilled while you enjoy the warm wildernessrentals are the way to do it.

YETI Lowlands waterproof blanket

Better than a regular blanket. This has a waterproof layer which is in turn padded and insulated on the inside. It’s machine washable and dries extremely fast. We found it to be very heavy duty and perfect for all terrains.

Volley canned liquor

With a rocking vehicle it’s probably best to leave your bottled goods at home. Switch them for the canned variety. Volley have canned tequila, and if that isn’t your poison there are plenty of other canned spirits and wine on the market, perfect for those end-of-hike sunsets.

Herbivore Hand Hero purifying gel

Finally, no post-pandemic travel kit is complete without a sanitiser. Herbivore’s Hand Hero is 75% alcohol with hydrating hyaluronic acid and skin-soothing aloe vera to leave your hands soft and hydrated, no matter how often you clean them. Available in pink grapefruit and lavender.
