A RECENT episode of University Challenge had its viewers gripped to the screen, but not for standard reasons.

The Jeremy Paxman-hosted TV series - which has run since 1962 - is a quiz series, where various universities go head-to-head against one another.

Monday night's episode on BBC Two saw two new teams in the studio, who were gunning for the win.

One was Royal Holloway, University of London, and the other was Cranfield University, a Bedford-based school with less than 5,000 students, specialising in STEM.

The contestants' intelligence was certainly impressive, but it was one of the hopefuls' hair that caught the eye of viewers.

Cranfield's captain, John Joseph Stephenson had an incredible head of hair, and had styled in a very unique way.

The PhD student had viewers quickly obsessing over his blonde hair, which had been styled in a side parting.

They quickly rushed to Twitter to comment on his "absolutely incredible comb-over".

Some were even left utterly distracted by his bold hair choice, as they couldn't even concentrate on the questions asked.

The fan Tweeted: "Barely listening to questions, I'm totally absorbed by THE HAIR".

A third commented: "As comb-overs go, respect."

As another joked: "Stephenson is studying Extreme Environments… which explains the windswept hair."

And many were keen to know what hair products he used, as one asked: "What hair product does Stephenson use? Whatever it is I want it!"

University Challenge continues on Monday on BBC Two.
