Kia has certainly been threatening to take the electric car and SUV crown away from Tesla. And it is going full attack mode with its new 2024 EV9 SUV, revealed recently in all its glory. This is perhaps one of the most impressive Kia products of recent times. With its 336-mile range more than enough to take on Tesla’s Model X, and showcase just how good an electric SUV can look. The EV9 shows why Kia and Hyundai are so far ahead of their rivals with EVs.

The EV9 promises great efficiency on top of the excellent range. Plus, it is one of most dramatic looking SUVs currently on the market. Something that the Tesla Model X can’t claim to be, making the EV9 a very exciting prospect for the electric SUV segment.

The Kia EV9 Has Over 300 Miles Of Range

One of the biggest talking points for the EV9 is surely the range it has on offer. The Tesla Model X offers 348 miles of range in the dual-motor trim, whereas the Model X Plaid has 333 miles of range on offer. The EV9 though packs in a very impressive 336 miles of range. For a car that is set to cost around the $50,000 that is hugely impressive. Especially as the base Model X costs a staggering $99,990. A truly astronomical sum of money for most people.

The 300 mile + marker is where most people will feel comfortable with their electric car. This eliminates a lot of the range anxiety that people have over EVs, and Kia have hit the perfect spot to make consumers feel comfortable. Utilizing the E-GMP platform shared with Hyundai means the EV9 is tailor-made for efficiency. And the various powertrain configurations leave plenty of choice for the consumer. It is the RWD long range model that impresses the most with that 336 miles figure. Those are big numbers, but it isn’t just in the miles game that the EV9 is coming for the Model X.

Kia EV9 Is A Retro-Modern Styled Boxy SUV

One of the biggest upsides to the EV9 is the sensational exterior appearance of the car. No longer have we got a simple and plain look like with the Model X. Kia has gone down a similar route to Hyundai’s Ioniq 5. With a boxy, retro looking shape that still retains some rather sharp and sleek lines. The front fascia with the vertical headlights looks super sharp. While the air dam area is much more refined compared to rival electric SUVs from large European manufacturers.

Pleasingly, the EV9 retains a lot of the design from the concept. In fact, it is incredibly hard to tell the two apart, with the radical wheel design of the concept retained as an option for the EV9. It is difficult to argue that the Tesla Model X is a bad looking car. But compared to the EV9, it's easy to see why it is boring looking to some. It looks much like many other cars on the road, but Kia has pushed the boundaries somewhat with the EV9. It isn’t as radical as Hyundai’s Ioniq range, but it is certainly a stunning car.

How Kia Have Made The EV9 Extremely Aerodynamic

Kia speak about efficiency a lot with the EV9. And for good reason. The company says that the EV9 has a drag coefficient as low as 0.28. To put that into context, the Ioniq 6 is 0.21 and the Ioniq 5 is at 0.29. So the EV9 is very much in the ballpark with the best. The Model X is lower at 0.24 but the EV9 still impresses. Another standout feature are the swiveling seats in the second of the three rows. Allowing those inside to turn and face the passengers behind.

Long journeys may become much more of a social event for those inside the EV9. It is very much a feature that the Model X can’t claim to have. The cabin within the EV9 is simple, clean, and refreshing. Exactly what you would want from a Kia.

Once again, Kia has done a fantastic job with an electric car. The EV9 oozes quality wherever you look, and it is very much gunning for Tesla and the Model X. The range it offers is more than good enough for a daily driver. Plus, it is highly likely that the EV9 will undercut the Model X massively when it comes to price. There really is very little to complain about here. Kia and sister company Hyundai are making it incredibly hard for us to consider anyone else’s electric vehicles. Especially with the range and affordability of the cars.
